Analytics with GoatCounter
I use GoatCounter to collect basic analytics about visitors to my site. GoatCounter is a privacy-friendly and open-source analytics platform (alternative to Google Analytics) that does not collect personally identifiable information. It doesn’t track users with unique identifiers and no information is shared with third parties. It collects anonymous data such as:
- Hashed IP addresses (which cannot be reversed to identify individuals)
- Browser User-Agent string
- Screen size
- Referrer and URL visited
- Country/location data (generalized)
This data helps me understand how many people visit my site and where the top referrers are coming from, so I can improve your experience. GoatCounter does not require cookie consent under GDPR because it does not track personal data.
Contact Form via Formspark
My contact form are powered by Formspark.io, a privacy-first service. When you submit a form, Formspark collects:
- The information you provide in the form fields (e.g., name, email, message)
- Your IP address and browser information for security and spam prevention
Formspark does not sell your data and uses it only to deliver your messages to me and to maintain service quality.
2. Cookies and Tracking
I do not use cookies for tracking or advertising/marketing purposes. GoatCounter’s analytics do not rely on cookies. There are some functional cookies like _lscache_vary set by LiteSpeed Cache to distinguish logged-in users from guests to help serve the correct cached version of pages. It typically expires after 2 days and is essential for proper caching behavior.
3. Data Retention
I retain your submitted contact form data only as long as necessary to respond to your inquiry or as required by law. I will not disclose any personal information to third parties.
4. Affiliate Links Disclosure
In the future, I may include affiliate links in my posts or pages. (I will update this section when that happens.) Affiliate links are links to products or services where I may earn a small commission if you make a purchase through them, at no extra cost to you.
I will always disclose when affiliate links are present to maintain transparency with my readers and comply with legal requirements such as FTC guidelines.
